Heated towel rails are available in both wet and electric versions to suit your heating system, but you will also find dual-fuel versions available They are available in a huge range of different shapes, styles and sizes and like radiators, it's even possible to have them made-to-measure. You canl also often find towel rail fitings that can be attached to normal contemporary radiators. There are three types of heated towel rail: Wet (that can be plumbed in to your central heating system), Dual fuel (Wet with electrical heatin element) and Oil filled. The advantages of each are discussed below: 1) Wet - These are just like a normal radiator so will come on with your heating, but during the summer months when your central heating is switched off, so will your towel rail. However, they're also cheap to run as they do not require their own heating source. 2) Dual fuel - This type features all the benefits of a wet system, but includes an electrical element that can be switched on during the summer months so you can still have warm towels! 3) Oil filled - This is not connected to your heating system and is electrically operated. This has the advantage of being available all year through, but can be great if it would be difficult to plumb a wet towel rail in to your system. The most popular design of heated towel rail is the ladder style and many manufacturers supply this in white, chrome or other colours. Make sure you choose the correct model with enough BTU heat output if you want the towel rail to heat the room as well. Remember, if you store several towels on it, that will reduce the amount of heat available to heat the room! Examples of towel rails and ways to find out more: ![]() The B2 radiator from Bisque.
